[030. Everybody's gotta find their way out. Shining through the dark.]
[Friends]
[Lydia doesn't look too happy, but it's hard to tell what, exactly, is off about her. She's definitely concerned and overall, there's something heavier about her posture, her expression.
She's sitting by her desk and beside her communicator is, a pile of the books given to her for Christmas about the supernatural and about banshees. She's been studying.]
I know a lot of people have been feeling off since we got back from the port. I was in the infirmary myself for over a day. But there's something else going on. Something about the Barge is different, I don't know what, exactly. But I can feel it.
It's not death, but almost like a shadow. We all need to be careful. [She knows not everyone she considers her friend knows she's a banshee. But she cares about them so she wants to warn them. She's just not ready to announce it to the entire barge and cause panic.]
[Andrew]
[That's not the only thing worrying her, however. She has her warden item, her key, in her hand and is looking down at it when she starts the video to her inmate.]
Hey. I think we need to talk.
[Spam - Kira]
[She has heard about Kira being awake again after her time at the infirmary. She hasn't been over there to see her yet, though. And she hasn't really talked to her since the day she learned about Jackson.
And she knows it's about time for her to apologize. Or-- at least make things clearer. So she makes her way over to Kira's room and knocks on her door, hoping she's actually there so they can get this over with.]
[Allison]
[She feels silly, leaving her a message like this. But she used to write her texts before coming here, before Allison's arrival. Of things she needed to talk to her best friend about. And she has been talking to her in her room, but right now she feels like she can't leave because she has research to do. To stop someone else from getting hurt. So this will have to do.]
I need you to wake up. If something bad's about to happen, [And it is.] I need to know for sure you're okay.
[Jean]
[She's been meaning to do this since he arrived, but there's been so much going on, she never actually followed through with it. But now that she's talking to him again, she figures he's waited long enough.]
Hey Jean, can I ask you something?

He pauses on the stairs at her comment about a shadow, swallowing heavily before tucking the communicator back into his pocket.
Everyone has it but no one can lose it.
Stiles rakes a hand through his hair, forcing himself to take a deep breath and exhale slowly before continuing his trek to her room, knocking on the door and waiting for her to answer.]

They've always had a connection, she knows it got stronger after the ritual. But it feels clearer now, like she's more attuned to him. She doesn't know if it's because they're together, because she's in love with him now. She doesn't understand why, but it's definitely there.
So she just calls out, as she stands up:]
You know you can come in.
Spam
And if he thinks about it for long, he'll remember that it isn't the first time that it's happened. Even before the ritual, before the tether, he'd had a knack for finding Lydia. Or maybe Lydia just kept finding him. He's not sure which. He just knows that the bond between them is a lot stronger than it's ever been.
A faint smile tugs at his mouth when she calls out and he turns the handle and steps inside.]
Hey.
Spam
[She glances over at Prada who is only bothering to waggle his tail from the spot where he's laying on her bed, but isn't actually getting up to greet Stiles.
Shaking her head at her guard dog, she makes her way over to him.]
You got here fast? [Way too fast since she made her video, and she isn't actually in danger.]
Spam
I was already on the way when you sent your message.
[He reaches out and rests his hands on her shoulders, squeezing gently and pressing a kiss to her forehead.]
Voices?
Spam
When she pulls her head away to look at him, she shakes her head.]
Not voices. Just-- a force. [She purses her lips together and glances away. She's felt it before. Once. But she doesn't wanna bring up the Nogitsune.]
Spam
Like the Nogitsune.
[It isn't a question. His chest already feels tight, but he tries to ignore it for now because the Nogitsune isn't there. It can't be.]
Spam
[It's not like she can lie to him, there's no point. And she wouldn't want to, anyway. So she moves over to sit down next to him on the opposite side of Prada and nods.]
Yes. But it's not exactly the same and it's not on you.
Look at me.
no subject
[He does know. There's no way the Nogitsune is on board. He's pretty certain the Admiral only lets redeemable souls aboard as far as inmates go, and the Nogitsune isn't redeemable. He'd know.
He does turn his head to look at her, nodding.]
How is it different this time?
no subject
With the Nogitsune, it felt stronger. Like it was right there and it was coming for us. There was an urgency, a danger. That's not what it feels like now. There's a darkness, but it's not a threat. [Not yet, anyway.]
And I don't feel anything bad around you. [She lowers her voice as she smiles softly.]
You made me feel better just by coming in.
no subject
Good.
[There's no mistaking the relief in his voice with that acknowledgment. He holds her gaze.]
Yeah?
[He lifts his hand to cover hers, pulling it closer and pressing a kiss to her palm.]
no subject
[She's worried, too. And she plans on keeping a close eye on him just in case. She knows if it happens, at least here on the Barge, the Admiral may be able to help them. But she doesn't even wanna think about what it'd be like for him to go through something similar to the Nogitsune. She doesn't wanna think about how much it'd break him.
With a deep breath, she shifts closer to him, half nudging Prada out of the way so she can cross her legs over Stiles' lap.]
I mean, how did you find me, when we were at the port? You knew where I was, right?
no subject
Yeah. I just...knew. [He purses his lips and gazes at her.] You, too, right? I mean you called my name out before you actually saw me. [He'd been on the other side of the door.]
no subject
Like I knew you were here when you knocked. I can just-- feel you. Even when we're not in danger. [She holds his gaze and cocks her head slightly.]
And it can't be just because of the ritual because-- Deaton paired us for it. He had to have a reason.
no subject
It isn't the first time this happened.
[His voice is quiet and for a moment he sounds like his thoughts are far away. They are.]
no subject
[When he was possessed. She found him once and she tried to find him twice. It just-- didn't work out too well the first time around. But she hates thinking about how much she failed all of them that night.]
Or do you mean you finding me? [Because then, she's definitely unaware of it.]
no subject
The night of the winter formal. [His voice is quiet, and he holds his breath for a minute.] And...the night you showed back up in the woods after you were missing. Although...I guess that was equal parts Scott tracking you and you finding me. Us. All of us.
no subject
You. Finding you, probably. [She corrects him quietly, holding his gaze.]
Does it feel clearer to you now, too? Sharper. Like you know what you're looking for instead of just doing your best and following your instincts?
no subject
You think? [He bites his lip, gazing back at her. They'd barely even known each other then, even though they'd grown up together. Was there something beyond her abilities and the tether that kept pulling them together? Something that neither of them even knew about yet? He doesn't know.]
Yeah. Yeah, before it was different. The night of the formal was...it was just a vague impression, a random idea to check the lacrosse field. But this port...[He pauses, shakes his head.] I knew exactly where you were. There wasn't any doubt. I felt it.
no subject
Maybe? [She sighs softly and lifts her head a little more so she can look better at him.]
I don't know why I'm the way I am. I don't even really know what I am, aside from a name that doesn't tell me a whole lot. But if I was born with this-- thing, and the bite just made it stronger, then maybe it was already there all along.
Maybe whatever this connection between us is was already there, too. In a way.
no subject
[He meets her eyes, lifting his free hand to her cheek and brushing his thumb over her skin lightly.]
Lydia...[He's quiet for a moment, considering his words carefully before speaking. It's something he doesn't do often -- and when he does it's only because someone really matters to him.]
Maybe it was there all along. But whether it was or not...what you are. Who you are. You're amazing. And I love you. And nothing's going to change that.
[Even if they never figure out how her powers work.]
no subject
I love you, too. [She whispers, then leans in and kisses him softly, before pulling away just a little, her nose still brushing against his.]
What I was gonna say is, I think you're my anchor. Or-- some kind of banshee anchor.
no subject
I'm your anchor?
[He knows, of course, what it means in terms of werewolves. He isn't sure what it means in terms of banshees. He hadn't even realized they'd need one. And he sure hadn't thought he'd ever be another person's anchor.]
no subject
You remember when I got to the Barge? And-- the voices were really loud from all the deaths here? [She asks quietly.]
You came to see me and it got better. It wasn't as overwhelming, I could focus.
no subject
He reaches up and cups her cheek too, searching her eyes.]
Oh. [His mouth tugs upwards almost involuntarily.]
I guess...I never thought...
