lydiascreams | [002. The Wail of the Banshee -- Part 1?]

(OOC: Banshee scream below! It takes place on the Deck. Feel free to have your characters react to hearing it and let me know if you have any questions.)

[Lydia has been working on this little by little every day since she got to the Barge. She's been hearing all of the deaths and taking notes on her phone of names, murderer and murdered as a way to keep track of who could hurt them as well as how they chose to hurt them. Some of them showed up several times and she knows she needs to warn Stiles and Scott of those, at least.

She knows she's reaching breaking point. After each flashback, it becomes harder to hold back the scream. And that's why she chooses to go up on the Deck today. Because she figures at least she will be the furthest away from the rooms if she can't hold back anymore.

Except she doesn't expect the deck to hit her as hard as it does.

Once she gets there, she feels like she's being slammed with memories. There are so many of them all over the place, she feels like her head is going to explode. There's someone being strangled. Skeletal animals torn someone else apart. Another man's soul is splintered apart. A boy about her age has his throat slit open by a girl. One dies after a fight with the same man who strangled the first and the man whose soul got splintered kills another with a back stab.

It's too much, she can barely make sense of it all. Her hands are covering her ears and it's loud. So loud.

Before she can help it, Lydia screams. It's a loud, agonizing scream that makes her entire body shake and it feels like it's going on forever. She's never screamed for so long before, with the pain of so many.

Once it's over, her knees give under her and she kneels on the floor, hands trembling as she rubs them over her face, trying to catch her breath.]

Well, I thought we might start from your knowledge, rather than learn entirely new techniques. Build on what you already have with practical application.

I have read about jiujitsu and tae kwon do, I'm assuming the latter will be easier for be cause it doesn't require as much strength but I don't know if it will be as effective.

[He gives her a sheepish look.] I'm afraid human names for styles wasn't extensively covered in my teaching. But I'm reasonably certain that as a human who'd be up against people likely to be stronger than you, you should go for the tae kwon do.

Any discipline that can use the strength of the attacker against them will be an advantage.

Why don't you demonstrate a simple move from it and we'll take it from there?

[Wait, what? She might lose her focus momentarily.]

You're not human? [He looks human to her. But then again, the werewolves look human. Hell, she looks perfectly human, she's not entirely sure if she's considered human or not. So she's not judging, just... staring a little more than she should be.]

[He's honestly a little amused.] No, I'm Gallifreyan.

I'm sorry, I don't know what that means. [And for Lydia? It almost hurts to say those words.]

[He's surprised she has to ask.] I come from a world called Gallifrey.

[A world? As in, he's an alien? That's... new.] I guess we're from very different places. Do you have any... non-human abilities?

[He has a moment of impatience: this is a tangent. But it also applies, so he gets over it.] Yes. Both my body and mind are stronger than yours.

[Lydia isn't usually a fan of tangents herself but she needs information. She wonders if Stiles knows there are actual aliens onboard.]

Do you have anything you can do aside from being stronger? [Like mind-control, for example? She's a little traumatized.]

Did you hear something weird earlier? [Like a scream?]

My people are touch-telepaths, though the stronger of us don't necessarily need touch but can use their voices. Whether I personally can do that, I don't know because I haven't tried.

'Weird'? [That really could mean anything. Most of what happens on board is weird. Especially considering that Wynter has little experience off his world.]

So you can just communicate telepathically or can you do more than that? [Again, like mind-control.]

Weird. A noise. [Just how different from a regular human are you?]

More than that. I presume. [It can sort of be considered communication if you squint.]

[Noise isn't much.] Lydia, if you could possibly tell me what you're concerned about, it might be far simpler than expecting me to guess what you're trying to say.

[Yeah, that does nothing to comfort her. But she'll let it drop for now.

Instead, she will give him a little more information. For a change.]

A scream. A high-pitched scream. Not many people would have been able to hear it.

[He raises his eyebrow.] Yes. I heard it. May I ask why you screamed, and why it's important that I heard it?

[To the point. Okay.]

Because very few people would have been able to hear it. Because of what I am. A banshee.

And what is a banshee, if that's not to much to ask? [Because Wynter wouldn't have the first clue.]

[It's an odd question for someone to ask, but she guesses not so odd if he's not from Earth. She doubts they have the same kind of mythology.]

A supernatural creature. A messenger of death. I can sense death before it happens and sometimes, stop it. On the barge, I was able to feel the deaths that already happened.

Oh, I see. [He's not disappointed, exactly, but was expecting something else... he's not even sure what, even. The sensing the future is inbuilt to Time Lords, even though it's not used very well.] That must have been... something.

[He can't imagine that was particularly fun to experience.]

It was definitely something. [Something she hopes won't happen again. But she knows better than to hope that. It will happen, it always does.]

Sorry about the tangent. I was curious if anyone else had heard.

I see. Well, we should get back to our original track. Could you possibly demonstrate a form of the martial art you studied. It doesn't have to be perfect, just enough to give me an idea of what's happening.

We should, I'll start with the basics that I know. Mostly self-defense techniques my best friend suggested a while back and I read about.

[OOC: would you mind handwaving the actual martial arts part as I know nothing about it? ><]

[She is definitely going to be sore in the morning. But she smiles at him and nods.]

[He nods in acknowledgement of her thanks.] Running away will always be your best bet, no matter how good you get.
