[030. Everybody's gotta find their way out. Shining through the dark.]
[Friends]
[Lydia doesn't look too happy, but it's hard to tell what, exactly, is off about her. She's definitely concerned and overall, there's something heavier about her posture, her expression.
She's sitting by her desk and beside her communicator is, a pile of the books given to her for Christmas about the supernatural and about banshees. She's been studying.]
I know a lot of people have been feeling off since we got back from the port. I was in the infirmary myself for over a day. But there's something else going on. Something about the Barge is different, I don't know what, exactly. But I can feel it.
It's not death, but almost like a shadow. We all need to be careful. [She knows not everyone she considers her friend knows she's a banshee. But she cares about them so she wants to warn them. She's just not ready to announce it to the entire barge and cause panic.]
[Andrew]
[That's not the only thing worrying her, however. She has her warden item, her key, in her hand and is looking down at it when she starts the video to her inmate.]
Hey. I think we need to talk.
[Spam - Kira]
[She has heard about Kira being awake again after her time at the infirmary. She hasn't been over there to see her yet, though. And she hasn't really talked to her since the day she learned about Jackson.
And she knows it's about time for her to apologize. Or-- at least make things clearer. So she makes her way over to Kira's room and knocks on her door, hoping she's actually there so they can get this over with.]
[Allison]
[She feels silly, leaving her a message like this. But she used to write her texts before coming here, before Allison's arrival. Of things she needed to talk to her best friend about. And she has been talking to her in her room, but right now she feels like she can't leave because she has research to do. To stop someone else from getting hurt. So this will have to do.]
I need you to wake up. If something bad's about to happen, [And it is.] I need to know for sure you're okay.
[Jean]
[She's been meaning to do this since he arrived, but there's been so much going on, she never actually followed through with it. But now that she's talking to him again, she figures he's waited long enough.]
Hey Jean, can I ask you something?

Re: [ Filter ]
[In Dean's world, demons are twisted human souls - the dead, in a sense. Maybe enough to count. They are, ever and always, his go to assumption when anything is going inexplicably wrong - a paranoia he comes by honestly. But after a port where they were so rampant, the suspicion is especially close to the surface.]
[Filter --> Private]
Yeah. I've felt them before. The weaker, neutral ones I couldn't really feel until they were physically close to me.
But the stronger one, the one that was hurting people. I could feel him constantly. [She doesn't know if it was because he was possessing Stiles, who is tethered to her, but he was pulling her to him the whole time.]
It was heavy, dark. Worse than this.
[Private]
[What's good is self explanatory - that this isn't like the demon that was hurting people. Of course, he doesn't really think she'd be issuing such a vague warning if she'd thought that was the case.
He's quiet for several moments, draws a deep, slow breath before he speaks again.]
That place was chock full of dead spirits - a lot of 'em malevolent. Demons, too, and the things that can hold them in place.
Is it possible this is like an after image? Like ringing ears or seeing spots?
[Private]
It's possible. But I don't think so.
[And it's hard for her to explain why, but she'll do her best.]
It feels like-- you know when you're in a room and you feel eyes on you, but you don't know where it comes from or who's staring? You just know it's there, somewhere.
[Private]
[Immediately, resoundingly, confidently yes, he does; only in his case half the time he never gets to find out who or what it is staring at him. Either it drops down on his head or it doesn't, and he never gets to know which it will be - if it's even real - until it happens.
Not that it helps him know what this is or what to do about it. Except one thing.]
You got wards on your room?
[Private]
Wards? [She shakes her head. She barely even had a properly secure lock until Stiles made her get one.]
Would those help?
[Private]
He sighs a little, quietly, because he honestly doesn't know if they will, but that's not something he gets to admit to; he's tired, but he's not allowed to be tired, not when people are looking to him to be certain.]
Maybe. Certainly wouldn't hurt, and if they do, I can pick a different set. If you trust me with it.
[Private]
She knows Dean is one of the people Stiles trusts. And between her talk with the other him, with how much Dean obviously cares about Stiles and with everything he did for them at the last port, how willing he seems to be to help her now, she can't not trust him.
So she nods in response, staring right at the camera.]
I trust you. [It's completely sincere.]
I know you have experience with the supernatural. If you think it'll help, I'd like to give it a try.
[Private]
She shouldn't trust him, and he doesn't comment but he does shake his head at the discomfort her sincerity dredges up in his gut; here, now, he doesn't mean to do anything other than try to dissipate whatever it is that's crowding her. That might change. It probably will. He doesn't say that, either.]
I'll be up in a little bit, then. We'll see what sticks.
's the best I got until we know more.
[Private]
[Even if she's not exactly worried about protecting herself. If there is a force, if someone is possessed by it, then they've got much bigger problems.
But extra supernatural protection won't hurt anyone, so she might as well take what he's offering.]
Thanks, Dean. I'll be here until you come by.
[Private]
So he just nods, and a moment later, cuts the feed to start gathering together what supplies he has.
