[030. Everybody's gotta find their way out. Shining through the dark.]

[Friends]
[Lydia doesn't look too happy, but it's hard to tell what, exactly, is off about her. She's definitely concerned and overall, there's something heavier about her posture, her expression.

She's sitting by her desk and beside her communicator is, a pile of the books given to her for Christmas about the supernatural and about banshees. She's been studying.]

I know a lot of people have been feeling off since we got back from the port. I was in the infirmary myself for over a day. But there's something else going on. Something about the Barge is different, I don't know what, exactly. But I can feel it.

It's not death, but almost like a shadow. We all need to be careful. [She knows not everyone she considers her friend knows she's a banshee. But she cares about them so she wants to warn them. She's just not ready to announce it to the entire barge and cause panic.]

[Andrew]
[That's not the only thing worrying her, however. She has her warden item, her key, in her hand and is looking down at it when she starts the video to her inmate.]

Hey. I think we need to talk.

[Spam - Kira]
[She has heard about Kira being awake again after her time at the infirmary. She hasn't been over there to see her yet, though. And she hasn't really talked to her since the day she learned about Jackson.

And she knows it's about time for her to apologize. Or-- at least make things clearer. So she makes her way over to Kira's room and knocks on her door, hoping she's actually there so they can get this over with.]

[Allison]
[She feels silly, leaving her a message like this. But she used to write her texts before coming here, before Allison's arrival. Of things she needed to talk to her best friend about. And she has been talking to her in her room, but right now she feels like she can't leave because she has research to do. To stop someone else from getting hurt. So this will have to do.]

I need you to wake up. If something bad's about to happen, [And it is.] I need to know for sure you're okay.

[Jean]
[She's been meaning to do this since he arrived, but there's been so much going on, she never actually followed through with it. But now that she's talking to him again, she figures he's waited long enough.]

Hey Jean, can I ask you something?

[He considers this, moving his thumb lightly back and forth over the material of her dress.]

It isn't the first time this happened.

[His voice is quiet and for a moment he sounds like his thoughts are far away. They are.]

I know. I found you before--

[When he was possessed. She found him once and she tried to find him twice. It just-- didn't work out too well the first time around. But she hates thinking about how much she failed all of them that night.]

Or do you mean you finding me? [Because then, she's definitely unaware of it.]

Is it everywhere?

[He nods, slightly, an acknowledgment of her first statement and affirmation of her question, as well. He shifts slightly, moving his free hand around to rest between her shoulder blades.]

The night of the winter formal. [His voice is quiet, and he holds his breath for a minute.] And...the night you showed back up in the woods after you were missing. Although...I guess that was equal parts Scott tracking you and you finding me. Us. All of us.

[She turns a little more toward him, wrapping an arm around his back and resting her other arm against her lap, hand still on his shirt, as she watches him speak.]

You. Finding you, probably. [She corrects him quietly, holding his gaze.]

Does it feel clearer to you now, too? Sharper. Like you know what you're looking for instead of just doing your best and following your instincts?

As far as I can tell, yes. I didn't pick up a place on there barge where it's stronger.

You think something followed us back from port, or just some new thing?

[...oh.]

You-- What does that mean, you're not my warden anymore?

[Steve's just woken up (literally), and in lieu of having any answers, he's turned to the onboard network. Which means, scrolling backward, he gets to this and stops, feeling a little cold.]

What port? What happened?

The port was really heavy for me, with all the ghosts. There was too much going on, so it's hard for me to pick this up and compare to something from there.

But I do think it's very likely. [She's just terrified of being assertive when it comes to her banshee abilities. Because last time she was, she disappointed a whole bunch of people. Including Scott, the Sheriff, and in a way, Stiles.]

I think that's what it means. [And she looks heartbroken by it.]

I don't know why, I don't know-- the Admiral never said anything.

But I don't want--

You didn't ask for this, right? [Hey, the fact he's asking instead of assuming she hates him is kind of progress...]

It's the Barge. Something is always going on.

[Arthas has the Sha of Pride going on but no one will be able to tell the difference because he's already such a dick.]

Yes.

Not all of it is that awful, I promise.

[Well, that's... worrying. He feels a little off himself, but he's chalked it up to worrying over Vergil, over his other friends. He's biting his lip when he replies, but brightens up the moment he notices the communicator is broadcasting. He wants her to feel positive, like she can handle this.]

I'm sorry you were sick after the port, Miss Lydia.

[It's the first time he's heard of the concept of a mental hospital, but since Cambridge explained mental health as being akin to the treatment of physical injuries, it makes more sense.]

...and nobody knew she was telling the truth, because that's all a secret, where you're from.

[He's not really thinking about it as he begins to move his fingers over the muscles in her shoulders, rubbing in a firm but gentle manner.]

You think? [He bites his lip, gazing back at her. They'd barely even known each other then, even though they'd grown up together. Was there something beyond her abilities and the tether that kept pulling them together? Something that neither of them even knew about yet? He doesn't know.]

Yeah. Yeah, before it was different. The night of the formal was...it was just a vague impression, a random idea to check the lacrosse field. But this port...[He pauses, shakes his head.] I knew exactly where you were. There wasn't any doubt. I felt it.

[She doesn't notice it when she begins to relax, either, but she does lean against his side more.]

Maybe? [She sighs softly and lifts her head a little more so she can look better at him.]

I don't know why I'm the way I am. I don't even really know what I am, aside from a name that doesn't tell me a whole lot. But if I was born with this-- thing, and the bite just made it stronger, then maybe it was already there all along.

Maybe whatever this connection between us is was already there, too. In a way.

[Lydia nods slightly, pursing her lips together.]

Magic, and the supernatural. Most people try to find logical, human explanations to all of it. They're too afraid to accept it. And-- when it's real, they assume the person is crazy. I thought I was going insane for a long time before I was able to wrap my head around it.

You're awake!

[She smiles, relieved. And she's already locking up the art room so she can go find him.]

The port-- is a long story, but it's over. When did you wake up? Are you okay?

Thanks, Souji. I'm okay now.

[She smiles back at him, to reassure him. He looks a little-- shaken up, maybe?]

How are you?

[Kira would have loved cookies, but she wasn't expecting them anyway.]

Yeah, I'm okay. I mean, I actually woke up feeling pretty good. Are you okay? Were you alright during the flood? I heard I missed it and it was super crazy.

[She goes to sit on her bed, inviting Lydia to take up a spot.]

I'm fine! Just a few scratches. I found my way back. [But he has his sword within hand's reach, and he's taken to wearing his hakama at all times- so that he can be more ready for a fight.]

Should we change the patrol schedule, you think? Is it something like that, what you're worried about?

Yeah. Apparently I was... tired. [Someone sounds unconvinced. Because he is. But he's still a little sleep-fogged.]

Sounds like a long story worth hearing, though. I just woke up - about five minutes ago. T'Pol said it's been about two weeks.

I'm sorry.

...I'd like to help, however I can. Nobody ought to feel like they don't understand what they are.

I just wish I knew what I could do to- help.
