[017. I reveal nothing, both played fate.]

[Her body is still shaking from the scream, from watching Zane kill Vergil when she wakes up in her bed. Her bed. They are back. And she almost rushes right out of her room toward the infirmary when she realizes she has a katana and a necklance in each of her hands. Her hands that are covered in blood. Both items that she retrieved from Vergil's body.

So instead, Lydia takes time to shower, to both clean herself and pull herself together. She knows from experience that, after something like that, no one needs a reminder of what happened, of how terrifying all of it was walking around the Barge. And it helps her, too.
But as she sits down to put on her make up (not bothering to cover the bruises around her neck this time, either. She survived again. Twice). But when she checks the network as she gets ready, her stomach drops again.

Allison, Mr. Powers. Both of their messages tell her something is wrong. Worse, they tell her that things aren't normal. They tell her that some people are still switched even thought they are already on the right barge.

Or maybe they she is on the wrong barge. Their rooms were the same for the most part.

So Lydia ventures her way out of her room and into the hallway slowly. The mountain ash line underneath her door tells her that she really is back in the right Barge. But then, she has plenty of werewolf enemies in the mirror barge, too. She heads toward the Infirmary to check on Vergil. And once she's done there, she makes her way straight to the seventh floor, using her key to get into Stiles' room ]

[A few hours later, it's pretty clear to Lydia that this is the normal barge and that there are plenty of mirror people in there still. Which means she needs to be careful and pretend to be her mirror self for as long as possible. A couple of people already know who she really is, but she trusts Stiles, Allison and Mr. Powers not to out her.

So she puts her best glare on and starts the video. Very visible bruises on her neck both from when Jackson tried to strangle her and from the necklace that Zane used against her have already formed.

If someone she trusts contacts her, she will just switch to private and tell them the truth.]

What the hell is going on?

He's a Sparda. Already dodged death a few times before - why should this place be any different. [It was a calm and quiet resignation that bordered on bitterness.]

A mirror attacked him. [She will lie, if she has to about who it was. It just doesn't feel right to tell him it was a different version of Zane and risk having Dante go after this version of him because he's grieving. No matter how calm he seems now. She knows that kind of stillness, she remembers it from when they lost Allison.]

I was just on my way to find him. I was almost there, but I didn't make it on time.

Huh.

You wouldn't have been able to save him - if he lost a fight, it was because of his own misstep. [She was just a young human girl, however innocent and kindhearted and Vergil was a caliber of warrior that she (to Dante's knowledge) wouldn't understand the full spectrum of.]

Is that Mirror here?

I should have been able to get to him and warn him before it happened. [She doesn't care if he knows she's a banshee. Not when she's trying to explain to him what happened to his brother and if she can learn something from this.]

No.

Then there's nothing to worry about. [If the mirror wasn't here, there was no point in taking it out on the prime person - Dante had to had faith that his brother was doing his best to take care of himself.]

How? It's something that he and I both face on a mostly regular basis ya know. Fighting against something that wants to kill us. Like I said, what could you have done in the heat of a fight?

[lydiascreams]

[Lydia relaxes a little, she was hoping he'd let it go, and not ask whose mirror it was. It doesn't really matter.]

I could have prevented it from happening. [Lydia sighs softly.]

I'm a banshee, Dante. I felt his death, I knew it was coming. I just-- didn't have enough time to explain it to him.

A wailing woman...[He'd already figured out that a lot of the paranormal things didn't measure up to the creatures he'd seen and knew about but a banshee was pretty straightforward.]

Knowing that something is coming is not the same as stopping it. Did you know by who's hand? Or what the circumstances were?

[lydiascreams]

[With his choice of words, Lydia can't help but be reminded of her former English teacher, the one who started this whole entire mess with her ritual.

She takes a deep breath and shakes her head.]

I didn't have time to concentrate. I didn't have time to figure out details. But I should have. [For all she knows, she made it happen when she tried to stop it.]

[He let silence lapse for a moment.]

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. A depressin' way of spending that time, thinking like that. It won't be his first time coming back to life, not for me.

If you think you could have done better, make it up by doin' the best you can every time. And don't worry about him. He won't blame you. He'll blame himself.

[lydiascreams]

[She won't discuss it any further. She's trying to do the best she can. but clearly that isn't enough. So she'll just have to try harder.]

Why would he blame himself? He still saved me.

Yeah, and still lost. Saving people is new for him - good for him, don't get me wrong but he's not going to take it as 'he saved you'. It'll be just 'he lost a fight'. Pride's a bitch.

[lydiascreams]

[Lydia knows what he means, unfortunately. She gets it.]

What should we do? [If] When he comes back?

[Dante shrugged.]

Go back to helpin' fix him. What else can we do? He'll remember it and if he goes after you for any reason, I'll gladly rearrange his face for you. Just gotta see what he's going to do first.

I don't think he'll go after me. I'm not worried about that.
