[Dean knows more powerful, more time-consuming tricks that certainly couldn't have hurt against the Nogitsune, but the problem with most of that is that one has to have forewarning to get it into place, or to know where a Key already exists. It's not a problem for Dean since the world ended and one can expect to run into a demon any given day of the week, but before that it was... tricky.
